Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Elmhurst baseball team suffered its first loss of the 2013 season, dropping an 8-2 contest to Babson College in the Bluejays' first game of a seven-game Florida trip.
Elmhurst (4-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring a run in the top of the first on
Zach Tsiodras' RBI single and then adding a run in the second on a sacrifice fly from
Tyler Facker.
Babson (5-2) sliced the lead in half with an unearned run in the second. The Beavers surged in front in the second inning on a two-run homer from Chris Kucher.
Babson added a run in the fourth and then pulled away with a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Brian Evans recorded two of the Bluejays' eight hits in the contest, including a double.
Luke Collins added a double for the Bluejays.
Jordan Hanlon dropped to 1-1 on the season after taking the loss. Hanlon worked 5.2 innings and surrendered nine hits and six runs (four earned). He walked three and struck out two.
Kevin Bellew finished up in relief for the Bluejays, allowing one earned run in 2.1 innings of work.
Derek Richards notched the win for Babson, tossing seven innings and allowing six hits and two runs. Richards walked four and fanned seven. Nick Ahearn worked two scoreless innings of relief for the Beavers.
Elmhurst takes on Concordia University (Wis.) on Saturday (March 23).
