Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's basketball team closed out the season with a 70-55 loss to 20th-ranked Wheaton College.
Elmhurst (6-19, 2-12 CCIW) battled with Wheaton (20-5, 10-4 CCIW) for the entire first half, trading leads seven times. The Thunder closed the half on a 7-2 run to open up a 30-26 lead at the half.
Wheaton surged ahead in the second half, opening on a 9-1 run to quickly open up a 39-27 lead. Elmhurst closed to within six points with 14:24 left on an
Erik Dornfeld lay-up, but the Bluejays came no closer as Wheaton quickly pushed its lead up to 15 points with a 9-1 run and cruised to the 70-55 victory.
Elmhurst finished the game shooting 33.3 percent from the floor (18-of-54), including just 27.6 percent (8-of-29) in the second half. Wheaton finished the contest hitting 49.0 percent (24-of-49) of its shots, including 54.2 percent (13-of-24) in the second half. The Thunder also shot 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from downtown.
Nick Sanford paced Elmhurst in the loss with 14 points while
D'Ante Foster totaled 12 points in the final game of his four-year career.
Bryant Ackerman finished with 10 points for the Bluejays.
Wheaton's Tyler Peters pumped in 22 points while shooting 7-of-11 from the field to lead all scorers. Nathan Haynes hit 7-of-14 shots to score 18 for the Thunder. Michael Kvam came off the bench to add 12 points for Wheaton.
