Box Score DECATUR, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's basketball team slipped to 0-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin after falling 77-72 at Millikin University.
Elmhurst (4-10) trailed by 10 points late in the second half but then mounted a furious rally to pull to within two points with 1:13 left to play. Buckets from 
Taylor Baxter and 
Nick Sanford brought the Bluejays to within six points with 2:41 left. Following a Millikin lay-up from Deavis Johnson, Sanford hit a pair of free throws and 
D'Ante Foster scored five straight points to bring Elmhurst to within a bucket with 1:13 left on the clock.
After a Millikin turnover, the Bluejays had a chance to tie the score, but an Elmhurst turned the ball over on its next possession. Johnson hit a lay-up to put the Big Blue up by four with 33 seconds left. After an Elmhurst miss, the Big Blue put the game out of reach by hitting 3-of-4 free throws in the closing seconds.
Elmhurst finished the contest shooting 45.8 percent (27-of-59) of its shots, including 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from three-point range.
Elmhurst's starters produced most of the Bluejays' points with four players finishing in double figures. Sanford totaled 17 points and seven rebounds to lead the Bluejays while Foster finished with 15 points. Baxter and 
Alex Morgunov scored 10 points apiece for Elmhurst. The Bluejays' bench was outscored 31-17 by Millikin.
Millikin shot 54.5 percent (24-of-44) from the field, including 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from downtown. Chase Robbins came off the bench to lead the Big Blue with 17 points. Elijah Kimon added 16 points while Trent Windemuller scored 11. TJ Friffin and Johnson finished with nine points apiece for the Big Blue.
Elmhurst will look for its first CCIW win of the season on Saturday when the Bluejays host North Park University at 4:00 p.m.
