Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's basketball team suffered its second-straight CCIW loss after falling 80-51 at 25th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University.
Trailing by one early in the opening half, Illinois Wesleyan (10-3, 2-0 CCIW) used a 9-0 run to grab an 18-10 lead. Elmhurst (4-9, 0-2 CCIW) sliced the lead down to four points with five minutes remaining in the opening half, but the Titans rattled off eight straight points to build a 38-36 lead with 1:43 left in the half. Illinois Wesleyan led 40-27 at the half.
The Titans quickly built a 20-point advantage early in the second half and then used a 12-0 run to build a 32-point lead and put the game out of reach. Illinois Wesleyan led by as many as 37 points and cruised to the 29-point victory.
Elmhurst shot just 33.3 percent (18-of-54) from the floor, including 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from downtown.
Nick Sanford led the Bluejays in the loss, scoring 11 points and totaling six rebounds.
Taylor Baxter and
D'Ante Foster chipped in with nine points apiece for Elmhurst.
Illinois Wesleyan hit 45.6 percent (26-of-57) of its shots, including 11-of-24 shots (45.8 percent) from three-point range.
Pat Sodemann paced the Titans with 15 points and seven rebounds. Brady Zimmer came off the bench to score 14 while Kevin Reed added 10 points for the Titans.
The Bluejays will look for their first CCIW win of the season on Wednesday (January 9) when the squad plays at Millikin University.
