Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's basketball team suffered a 71-52 loss to 15th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University at R.A. Faganel Hall.
The loss was the Bluejays' eighth consecutive defeat and dropped the squad to 4-15 overall and 0-8 in CCIW play.
Elmhurst jumped out to a quick 11-6 lead in the opening half, but Illinois Wesleyan (16-3, 8-0 CCIW) responded, using a 17-2 run over the next seven minutes to build a 25-15 lead with 5:38 left in the half. The Titans led 33-24 at the half.
Illinois Wesleyan used a 15-2 run early in the second half to build a 24-point lead and never looked back, cruising to the 19-point victory.
Elmhurst finished the game shooting just 26.2 percent (17-of-65) from the floor, including just 15.4 percent (2-of-13) from three-point range.
Nick Sanford led the Bluejays in the loss with 13 points and six rebounds.
Alex Morgunov added eight points while
Kyle Wuest came off the bench to score eight.
Illinois Wesleyan shot 44.4 percent (20-of-45) from the floor, including 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from beyond the arc. The Titans went to the foul line 32 times and hit 25 (78.1 percent).
Four players reached double figures to lead the Titans. Victor Davis totaled 14 points while Pat Sodemann scored 12. Kevin Reed recorded a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Dylan Overstreet finished with 10 points for IWU.
Elmhurst hosts Millikin University on Wednesday (January 30).
