ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's basketball team suffered an 84-41 loss at Augustana on Saturday night.
The defeat marked the sixth straight for the Bluejays, who fall to 4-13 on the season and 0-6 in the CCIW.
Elmhurst never led in the contest as Augustana quickly jumped ahead by double figures at 15-4 less than eight minutes into the game. The hosts went on to lead by as many as 20 in the half before Elmhurst used a quick 7-0 in just over a minute to pull within 13 points with 2:44 left in the opening half.
Eric Leonard scored all seven in the run by knocking down a pair of threes and hitting a free throw. Augustana led by 13 at the break, 33-20.
Augustana scored the first five points of the second half to set the tone and could pull no closer than 17 the rest of the game.
Nick Sanford led Elmhurst with eight points and also reeled in 11 rebounds.
Elmhurst finished the game shooting just 26 percent (13-of-50) from the field including a 21.4 percent marker in the second half. The Bluejays knocked down only two three-pointers in the entire contest, both in the first half.
Augustana finished the night shooting 45.9 percent (28-of-61) including a 53.1 percent mark in the second half. Ben Ryan paced the Vikings with 14 points.
Elmhurst will visit Wheaton on Wednesday night (January 23) at 7:30 p.m.
