Postseason Honors Arrive for Elmhurst Baseball Team

All-CCIW Baseball Team

NAPERVILLE, Ill.
- A pair of Elmhurst baseball players have been named to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's all-conference squad while the Bluejays' head coach Joel Southern was named the league's Co-Coach of the Year.

Sophomore outfielder Dave Wolak earned first-team all-conference honors while senior pitcher Joe Luft closed out his career by garnering second-team all-conference accolades.

Wolak earned the second consecutive all-conference honor of his career after earning a second-team distinction in 2011. Wolak started all 43 contests for the Bluejays and finished the season with a .353 average and 33 RBI. He ranked third on the team in batting average while leading the squad in hits (61), runs scored (34), and total bases (83). He was also the squad's co-leader in home runs with four while finishing second on the team in RBI. Wolak also collected a team-leading 10 assists in the outfield.

In CCIW contests, Wolak posted a .345 average while driving in 13 runs and scoring 16 times.

Luft closed out his four-year career at Elmhurst by earning second-team all-conference honors after registering a career-best season. Luft post career bests in victories (five), ERA (3.25), innings pitched (61.0), strikeouts (49), and opponent batting average (.224). He also led the squad in victories (5-1), strikeouts, and opponent batting average.

Joel Southern
Luft was a perfect 2-0 in CCIW contests with a 3.54 ERA in five starts. He fanned 24 in 37 innings pitched also recorded Elmhurst's win in the CCIW Tournament.

Southern was named the CCIW's Co-Coach of the Year (sharing the honor with North Park's Luke Johnson) after leading Elmhurst to its best record since the 2004 season. The Bluejays finished the year with a 23-20 overall record and improved by five games in the CCIW standings with an 11-10 league record. The Bluejays also played in the CCIW Tournament for the first time since the 2007 season.
