Bluejays Season Ends in 4-1 Loss at CCIW Tournament

Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team's season came to a close after the Bluejays suffered a 4-1 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University at the CCIW Tournament.

The game was knotted at 1-1 after seven innings before Illinois Wesleyan (28-14) scored a pair of runs in the eighth and tacked on an insurance run in the ninth to pull away for the 4-1 victory.

The Titans scored a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Elmhurst (23-20) answered back with a run in the bottom the second to even the score. Three straight singles loaded the bases with no outs for the Bluejays. Brian Marquis' fielder's choice grounder scored Tim Nolan to even the score, but back-to-back ground balls ended the Elmhurst scoring threat.

The Bluejays' defense kept the game tied. Tyler Wargo took away a home run from Zach Scott in the fifth inning to keep the game tied. Dave Wolak gunned down Derek Idstein at the plate in the seventh.

Bobby Czarnowski put the Titans back on top in the eighth by cracking a two-run homer to right field. A.J. Nathan added a sacrifice fly for the Titans in the ninth to drive in an insurance run.

Tim Nolan and Luke Collins collected two hits apiece in the loss.

Dave Parr made the start and took the loss for the Bluejays. Parr worked eight innings and allowed 13 hits and four earned runs. He struck out four while falling to 4-4 on the season.

Elmhurst closed out the year with its best-ever finish under head coach Joel Southern. The Bluejays finished the year with a 23-20 record and an 11-10 CCIW finish.
