Bluejay Baseball Team Edges Past Carthage 5-4

Box Score KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst College baseball team won the rubber game of a three-game series against Carthage College by toppling the Red Men 5-4 in Kenosha.

Elmhurst (17-13, 9-6 CCIW) jumped on top in the second inning as the Bluejays sent nine men to the plate and scored four runs. The Bluejays loaded the bases with no outs and went up 1-0 when Jake Bronkema scored on a wild pitch. Eric Stevenson's run-scoring ground out gave the Bluejays a two-run cushion. Luke Collins came home to score on a passed ball and Dave Wolak delivered an RBI single to give Elmhurst a 4-0 advantage.

Tim Nolan's RBI single in the fourth inning gave Elmhurst a five-run cushion.  

Carthage (14-14, 6-9 CCIW) got on the scoreboard in the fifth with a run. The Red Men added another run in the sixth to make the score 5-2.

The Red Men loaded the bases and scored a run in the seventh, but a double play ended the scoring threat. The Red Men scored one last run in the ninth, but stranded the tying run on first to end the game.

Tim Nolan and Joe Kennedy recorded two hits apiece to lead the Bluejays' offense.

Joe Ramirez made the start for the Bluejays and picked up his first win of the season. Ramirez worked 5.2 innings and scattered eight hits, two walks, and two runs. He struck out while moving to 1-2 on the season. Brennan McClung pitched the final three innings to record the save for Elmhurst. McClung allowed six hits and two runs while striking out one.
