Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team completed the three-game series sweep over North Central College by hammering the Cardinals 11-3 at Butterfield Park.
The win marked Bluejays' first series sweep of a CCIW opponent since the 2007 season when Elmhurst dedeated Wheaton three times.
Elmhurst (15-10, 7-5 CCIW) jumped out to an 8-0 lead over the Cardinals, taking advantage of four North Central (15-10, 6-6 CCIW) errors in the opening two innings.
The Bluejays plated four runs in the first, scoring three unearned runs on a Cardinals' error.
Zach Tsiodras singled home a run.
Jake Bronkema drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and
Luke Collins roped a double off the wall to drive in two.
In the second inning, the Bluejays sent nine men to the plate as three North Central errors led to four Elmhurst runs.
Zach Hofer started the scoring with an RBI double.
Dave Wolak followed with a run scoring single and Tsiodras drove in run on a ground ball that was mishandled by the Cardinals.
Jake Bronkema added a run-scoring ground out to give the Bluejays an eight-run cushion.
Eric Stevenson put Elmhurst up 9-0 in the third when he belted a ball off the scoreboard in left field for his first home of the season.
The Cardinals cracked the scoreboard in the fourth, scoring twice on RBI singles form Luke Waldier and Sam Carius.
The Bluejays played long ball in the fifth and sixth innings as
Tyler Wargo blasted a solo shot to lead off the fifth and Wolak belted a leadoff solo homer in the sixth.
The Cardinals scored a run on an Elmhurst error in the seven to make the final score 11-3.
Wolak led the Bluejays at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. Tsiodras, Bronkema, and Collins drove in two runs each in the win.
Dave Parr improved to 3-2 with the win for Elmhurst. Parr scattered eight hits, three walks, and two runs over seven innings of work. He struck out four Cardinal batters.
Elmhurst hosts Aurora University on Tuesday, April 17.
