Box Score CAROL STREAM, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team dropped its fourth straight CCIW contest, falling 9-5 to Wheaton College at Lee Pfund Stadium.
After starting the season with a 4-1 conference mark, the Bluejays have fallen to 4-5 in league play at 12-10 overall.
Elmhurst grabbed a quick 1-0 lead on
Dave Wolak's RBI ground out in the first inning. The Bluejays' lead didn't last long as Wheaton (13-12, 3-6 CCIW) plated three runs in the bottom of the first. Trey Martin doubled home a pair in the frame to spark the Thunder.
Wheaton tacked on three more runs in the second and another run in the fourth to establish a 7-1 lead.
The Bluejays made it 7-2 in the fifth inning when
Brian Evans scored on
Marc Shield's sacrifice fly. Wheaton took advantage of a pair of Elmhurst errors in the bottom of the fifth to score two runs on Drew Golz's single.
Elmhurst scored three runs in the seventh to pull to within four runs. Wolak started the scoring for the Bluejays with a sacrifice fly that scored
Eric Stevenson.
Zach Tsiodras and
Tyler Wargo added RBI singles for the Bluejays.
The Bluejays collected 13 hits in the loss but left 10 runners on base.
Joe Kennedy and Tsiodras finished with the hits apiece for the Bluejays. Evans scored three runs for Elmhurst.
Bryan Baker made the start and took the loss for the Bluejays. Baker allowed five hits, seven runs, and six walks in 3.1 innings of work. He struck out three while falling to 1-2 n the season.
Elmhurst travels to Benedictine University on Thursday (April 12) before taking on North Central College in a three-game weekend series.
