Baseball Team Takes Series From Augustana with 11-5 Road Win

Box Score MOLINE, Ill. - The Elmhurst College baseball team won the rubber of the three-game series against Augustana College by scoring an 11-5 road victory over the Vikings.

Elmhurst upped its record to 10-6 overall and 2-1 in the CCIW while Augustana fell to 13-5 and 1-2 in league play.

The Bluejays scored early and often against Augustana, racing out to a 10-1 lead and hanging on for the six-run victory.

Elmhurst loaded the bases with no outs and grabbed a 1-0 lead when Brian Evans scored on a double play grounder. The Bluejays made it 2-0 in the second when Eric Stevenson smacked a two-out RBI single.

Augustana scored a run in the bottom of the second to pull to within one, but the Bluejays scored four times in both the third and fourth innings.

Tyler Wargo singled home a pair of runs in the third and Joe Kennedy drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. Stevenson drove in his second run of the game with a run-scoring single. 

In the fourth, Tim Nolan, Joe Kennedy, and Brian Marquis all singled home runs for the Bluejays and the squad tacked on a run on a Vikings' error.

Augustana scored a run in the sixth and a run in the eighth to make the score 10-3. A sacrifice fly from Evans in the ninth accounted for the Bluejays' final run of the game.

The Vikings tacked on two runs in the bottom of the ninth to make the final score 11-5.

Wargo, Kennedy, and Stevenson all drove in two runs apiece for the Bluejays in the win.

Dave Parr pitched a solid seven innings for the Bluejays, picking up his second win of the season (2-1) in the process. Parr worked seven innings, scattering seven hits and two walks. He allowed just two runs (one earned) while striking out one.

Brian Konecke took the loss for Augustana, dropping to 3-1 on the season. Konecke was tagged for seven hits and six runs in just 2.1 innings.

Elmhurst hosts Wheaton College in a CCIW doubleheader on Tuesday, April 3.
