Baseball Team Splits Two With Hope

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Elmhurst College baseball team moved to 7-2 on the season after splitting a doubleheader against Hope College at the RussMatt Tournament in Florida.

Elmhurst edged Hope (3-4) by a 4-3 score in the opener, but Hope toppled the Bluejays 8-1 in game two.

ELMHURST 4, HOPE 3 - Elmhurst scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally for a 4-3 win. Trailing by a run with one out in the sixth, Tyler Wargo singled and then scored on Zach Tsiodras RBI double. Marc Shield put the Bluejays in front with an RBI single to drive home Tsiodras.

The Bluejays scored a pair of runs in the third inning. Jake Bronkema singled and scored on Brian Marquis' triple. Tim Nolan followed with an RBI double to knock in Marquis.

Shield finished 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI while also stealing a base. Marquis finished 2-for-2 with an RBI triple.

Brennan McClung went the distance for the Bluejays to pick up the victory from the mound. McClung scattered eight hits and three earned runs over seven innings. He walked one and struck out one.

HOPE 8, ELMHURST 1 - Elmhurst managed just one run in the seven-run loss to Hope. Dave Wolak finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple to lead the Elmhurst offense. Shield collected the Bluejays' only RBI in the loss.

Alex Van Cleve suffered the loss for the Bluejays, allowing 10 hits and seven runs over three innings. Eric Stevenson worked three innings in relief, allowing just one earned run while striking out two.
