ORLANDO, Fla. - The Elmhurst College women's tennis team opened its spring trip to Florida with a 9-0 loss to Colby College.
Colby improved to 3-3 on the season while the Bluejays slipped to 1-9 overall. Colby swept all six singles contests and the three doubles matches en route to the shutout win.
In doubles play, Colby's duo of Sarah Wiener and Kathryn Vergeyle toppled Elmhurst's pair of
Stephanie Ruff and
Jordyn Hoover 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, the Bluejays' team of
Jennifer Guenther and
Kayla Mangiapane suffered an 8-3 loss to Tess Perese and Sally Holmes. Elmhurst's duo of
Nicole Darga and
Emily Tarlini fell 8-4 to Mckenzie Love and Victoria Abel at No. 3 doubles.
Ruff dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Wiener at No. 1 singles while Perese defeated Darga 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Vergeyle defeated Hoover 6-2, 6-0 and No. 3 singles while Mangiapane fell 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Abel downed Tarlini 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and Love closed out singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Elmhurst's
Ragan Wilson.
Elmhurst takes on George Fox University on Thursday, March 22.
