Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Elmhurst College baseball team rode solid pitching performances from
Joe Luft and
Jordan Hanlon to a doubleheader sweep of Fontbonne University at the RussMatt Tournament.
Luft tossed a complete game in the Bluejays' 6-2 win in the first game of the doubleheader while Hanlon followed with a one-hit shutout in Elmhurst's 2-0 win in game two.
ELMHURST 6, FONTBONNE 2 - Luft improved to 2-0 on the season by tossing his second complete game in as many starts. The Elmhurst senior scattered five hits and just two unearned runs while working all seven innings. Luft did not issue a walk while striking out five.
The Bluejays finished with 12 hits as a team. Four Bluejays recorded two hits apiece in the win.
Dave Wolak finished 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in two of the Bluejays' runs.
Tyler Wargo,
Joe Kennedy and
Brian Evans all totaled two hits apiece in the victory. Wargo knocked home a run while Evans stole a base.
Joe Ramirez doubled and scored a pair of runs for Elmhurst in the win.
ELMHURST 2, FONTBONNE 0 - Hanlon finished the doubleheader sweep for the Bluejays by throwing a complete game shutout. The Elmhurst sophomore allowed just one hit while tossing all seven innings. He walked two and struck out two while improving to 2-0 on the year.
Zach Hofer sparked the Elmhurst offense, finishing 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, an RBI and two stolen bases. Evans also scored a run for the Bluejays.
Elmhurst takes on Western New England University on Monday (March 19).
