Bluejays Down Carthage 84-71 With Strong Second Half

Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team wrapped up its final home game of the 2011-12 season by outscoring Carthage College 42-30 in the second half en route to an 84-71 victory.
 
Leading by only one at the half, Elmhurst (12-12, 6-7 CCIW) fell behind early in the second half before evening the score at 46. Carthage (12-12, 6-7 CCIW) and Elmhurst traded buckets for the next four minutes with the score knotted at 57-57 with 12 minutes to play. The Bluejays took control of the game by rattling off a 9-0 run over the next two minutes sparked by back-to-back treys from D'Ante Foster. Carthage cut Elmhurst's lead down to seven points, but came no closer as the Bluejays pushed their lead up to double digits while pulling away for the 13-point win.

Elmhurst led 16-6 in the opening half before Carthage responded 24-9 run to open up a five-cushion in the opening half. Elmhurst outscored Carthage 17-11 over the final six minutes of the half to lead 42-41 at the break.

Elmhurst finished the contest shooting 50.8 percent (32-of-63) from the floor, including 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from downtown. The Bluejays dominated Carthage on the glass, outrebounding the Red Men 46-22.

Foster came off the bench to pace the Bluejays, scoring a season-high 22 points while shooting 8-of-10 from the floor. Foster was red-hot from beyond the arc, splashing home 5-of-7 three-point attempts. He added three steals and three assists in the win. Nick Sanford recorded a double-double for the Bluejays totaling 15 points and grabbing a game-high 16 rebounds.

Elmhurst seniors Jerome Robinson, James Robertson, and Zack Boyd turned in strong performances on senior night, combining for 43 points. Robinson dropped in 18 points while shooting 8-of-10. Robertson added 16 points for the Bluejays while Boyd totaled nine points and six assists.

Carthage ended the game shooting 43.3 percent (26-of-60) from the field, but the Red Men struggled in the second half, hitting only 11-of-32 shots (34.4 percent). The Red Men shot 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from three-point range, but were only 1-of-12 from long range in the second half.

Malcom Kelly led Carthage with a game-high 24 points, shooting 8-of-13 from the floor. Mitch Thompson and Done Logan added 10 points apiece. Thompson pulled down nine rebounds while Luke Johnson scored nine points for the Red Men.

Elmhurst wraps out the 2011-12 season by playing at Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday (February 18).
