Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's basketball team scored its second straight victory by upending Lawrence University 76-65 at R.A. Faganel Hall.
The Bluejays came out firing in the opening half, using a 13-2 run to turn a 7-7 tie into an 11-point lead. Lawrence (4-4) cut the Elmhurst lead down to five points with eight minutes to play in the first half, but Elmhurst (2-5) scored the next eight points and took a 35-19 lead on
Nick Sanford's basket with 4:30 left in the half. The Bluejays led 38-22 at the break.
Elmhurst pushed its lead up to 21 points early in the second half before Lawrence slowly started to close in. The Vikings pulled to within 10 points with a 21-10 run, but Elmhurst answered back with six straight points to put the game out reach with 2:31 left on the clock.
The Bluejays shot 46.0 percent (23-of-50) from the floor, including 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from three-point range. Elmhurst was an impressive 22-of-27 from the foul line (81.5 percent). The Bluejays also dominated on the glass, outrebounding Lawrence by 17 (37-20) for the contest.
Lawrence finished the game shooting 42.6 percent (20-of-47) from the floor, but struggled from beyond the arc, hitting only 5-of-22 attempts (22.7 percent).
Sanford led all scorers with a game-high 18 points while also collecting a game-high nine rebounds.
Taylor Baxter added 17 points and six rebounds for the Bluejays while
D'Ante Foster scored 16.
Bryant Ackerman came off the bench to score seven for the Bluejays.
Connor Klusendorf and David DeWolfe scored 13 points apiece to lead Lawrence in the loss. Ryan DePouw and Max Burgess added 10 points apiece for the Vikings.
Elmhurst looks for its third straight win on Saturday by travelling to Washington University in St. Louis.
