ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst wrestling team, ranked fourth in the NWCA Division III poll improved to 2-0 on the season in dual meet competition by upending Wheaton College 29-12.
Elmhurst (2-0, 1-0 CCIW) won seven of the 10 weight classes en route to the 17-point CCIW dual meet win.
Mark Johnson kicked off the dual with an 18-6 major victory over Wheaton's Tom Foy at 125 pounds. Ranked number one in the nation at 133 pounds, Elmhurst's
Dalton Bullard made short work of Jeremiah Brown, pinning the Thunder grappler in 1:04.
Eric English received a forfeit victory at 141 pounds to put Elmhurst on top 16-0.
Jim Spangler followed with a 14-7 major victory over Wheaton's Dan Mitchell at 149 pounds to stake Elmhurst to a 20-point advantage.
Wheaton (0-2, 0-1 CCIW) scored its first points of the dual at 157 pounds when Mark Savenok defeated
Alex Maynard 6-4.
Yousef Al-Ghoul and
Danny Balderas posted back-to-back wins at 165 and 174 pounds, respectively, for the Bluejays. Al-Ghoul defeated Luke Sims a 7-4 defeat while Balderas scored a 14-6 major decision over Matt McCrary.
Wheaton scored back-to-back wins at 184 and 197 pounds. Mitch Steed pinned Elmhurst's
Daniel Threlkeld in the second period (4:05) at 184 pounds while Dan Olsen followed with a 14-8 victory over Elmhurst's Mike Benefield at 197 pounds.
Elmhurst's
Mike McNeil closed out the dual with a 13-6 win over Wheaton's Kyle Patton at 285 pounds.
The Bluejays will wrestle at the Concordia University (Wis.) Open on Saturday, November 17.
