Bluejays Snap Skid With 68-58 Win at North Park

Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team ended its two-game losing streak with a 68-58 victory over North Park University.

Elmhurst (10-9, 4-4 CCIW) started fast, opening up an 18-12 lead just eight minutes into the game.  A 12-3 run by North Park (5-14, 1-7 CCIW) gave the Vikings a 24-21 lead with six minutes to play in the first half. Elmhurst finished the half with a flurry, closing out the final 5:30 with a 14-2 run to build a 35-26 lead at the break.

North Park hung around for the majority of the second half, closing to within three points on three occasions. Six straight points from the Bluejays gave Elmhurst a 55-46 cushion with 6:44 left to play. North Park pulled to within five points with 2:53 to go, but came no closer as Elmhurst hit 9-of-12 free throws in the game's final minutes to pull away for the 10-point victory.

Zack Boyd scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Nick Sanford totaled a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bluejays in the victory. D'Ante Foster added nine points while Brandon Grubl came off the bench to score eight. James Robertson, Justin Phipps and Erik Dornfeld all scored six points apiece.

The Bluejays shot 48.7 percent (19-of-39) from the floor, and connected on 6-of-11 attempts (54.5 percent) from three-point range. Elmhurst went to the foul line 33 times, and hit 25 free throws, finishing the contest shooting 72.7 percent from the charity stripe. The Bluejays dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Vikings 34-19.

North Park finished the contest shooting 40.8 percent (20-of-49) from the floor, including 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from downtown.

Kendell Greer paced the Vikings in the loss with 13 points. Mike Gabriel and Roshawn Russell added 12 points apiece for the Vikings.

Elmhurst hosts North Central College on Tuesday, January 31.
