Box Score KENOSHA, Wis. - A 14-4 run late in the opening half helped Carthage College hand the Elmhurst College men's basketball team a 77-58 loss in Kenosha.
Elmhurst slipped to 9-9 overall and 3-4 in the CCIW with the loss.
The first half was back-and-forth until Carthage (9-9, 3-4 CCIW) closed on the run. The Red Men led by one with 5:36 to go in the opening half, but outscored the Bluejays 14-4 before the horn to lead 39-28 at the break
The Bluejays scored the first four points of the second half to pull to within seven points, but the Red Men quickly extended their lead back to double-digits, not along the Bluejays to get closer than 11 points in the game's final 10 minutes. Carthage pulled away down the stretch to earn the 19-point victory.
Elmhurst shot 42.2 percent (19-of-45) from the floor, including 45.5 percent (5-of-11) from three-point range. Carthage shot 54.7 percent from the floor (29-of-53), including 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from beyond the arc.
Jerome Robinson scored 15 points to lead the Bluejays in the loss.
James Robertson added 14 points, hitting four three-pointers for Elmhurst.
Brandon Grubl came off the bench to score 12 for the Bluejays.
Elmhurst couldn't stop Carthage's Malcom Kelly. Kelly pumped in 27 points while shooting 8-of-12 from the floor, including 5-of-7 from long distance. Luke Johnson totaled 15 points, eight rebounds, and four blocked shots while Mitch Thompson recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bluejays will try to snap their two-game slide when they travel to North Park University on Saturday (January 28).
