WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Elmhurst College wrestling team, ranked 13th in the latest NWCA poll, posted a 2-2 dual-meet record while competing against nationally ranked squads at the Border Brawl hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Elmhurst (12-4) opened the day with a 23-9 victory over 25th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The Bluejays fell to 19th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh 24-12 in the second round before upending the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 32-18. The Bluejays closed the tournament with a 31-8 loss to 12th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

ELMHURST 23, STEVENS POINT 9 - The Bluejays won seven of the 10 matches against the Pointers en route to the 14-point dual meet win. Mark Johnson opened the dual with a 9-1 major decision over  Lance Fabry at 125 pounds. UW-SP's Joe Mileski toppled Elmhurst's Matt Quigley 5-1 at 133 pounds and the Pointers' Jordan Kust followed with a 6-0 decision over Brad Gapinski at 141 pounds to put Stevens Point up 6-4.

Ryan Earley put Elmhurst back on top by toppling Shane Sweeney 6-1 at 149 pounds. The Pointer Ben Strobel gave Stevens Point a 9-7 lead with a 4-0 decision over the Bluejays' Tom Jung at 157 pounds.

Elmhurst put the dual away by winning the next five matches. Yousef Al-Ghoul upended Tony Kleuskens 5-2 at 165 pounds to give Elmhurst 10-9 lead. Mike Ryan followed with a 5-2 victory over Bill Langford at 174 pounds to extended Elmhurst's lead to four. Wrestling up a weight class, ninth-ranked Danny Balderas defeated Andy Borchardt 3-1 at 184 pounds to give the Bluejays a 16-9 lead. Joe Rau moved up to 197 pounds for Elmhurst and shut out Dustin Wozniak 8-0 to make the score 20-9 in favor of the Bluejays. Brian Brooks finished up the dual with a 5-2 victory over Matt Cuadra at 285 pounds.

UW-OSHKOSH 24, ELMHURST 12 - The Bluejays fell to 1-1 at the Border Brawl after falling to 19th-ranked UW-Oshkosh. Competing without three of their regular starters, the Bluejays dropped six of the 10 matches to the Pointers.

Third-ranked Zach Mueller opened with a 5-1 decision over Johnson at 125 pounds to give UW-Stevens Point a 3-0 lead. Quigley quickley evened the dual meet score at three with a 12-7 win over Carl DeLuca at 133 pounds. Alex Mueller gave the Pointers a 9-3 advantage by pinning Gapinski in 2:49 at 141 pounds. Earley pulled Elmhurst to within three poiints with a 10-5 victory over Jose Quintana at 149 pounds. Nazar Kulchytskyy pinned Jung in 2:03 to put UW-Stevens Points up 15-6 after five matches.

Aaron Konitzer toppled Ryan 8-3 at 165 pounds and Dan Schiferl followed with a 6-4 victory over Balderas at 174 pounds to give the Pointers a 21-6 cushion. Rau blanked eighth-ranked Sam Englelland 6-0 at 184 pounds to bring Elmhurst to within nine points. The Pointers put the dual away at 197 pounds when Ryan Heath upended Dylan Turley-Rule 7-5. Brooks made the final score 24-12 by deafeating UW-Stevens Points's Jason LaPlante 6-1 at 285 pounds.

ELMHURST 32, UW-EAU CLAIRE 18 - Elmhurst upended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 32-18. Each team won a pair of matches by forfeit with the Bluejays winning five of the remaining six matches to score the 14-point victory.

Johnson and Quigley earned wins by forfeit at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively to put Elmhurst up 12-0. Gapinski scored a 9-1 major decision over Steven Fisher at 141 pounds and Earley followed with a 12-1 major victory over Ryan Seideler at 149 pounds. Jun edged Brandon Stradel 14-13 at 157 pounds to give the Bluejays a 23-0 lead. Yousef Al-Ghoul added a 13-4 major decision over Levi Polus at 165 pounds and Ryan followed with a 17-1 technical fall over Jacob Hoffstatter at 174 pounds.

Mat Rieckhoff pinned Turley-Rule in 3:44 for the UW-Eau Claire's first points of the dual. UW-EC's Luke Ortscheid and Joe Ptsch earned forfeit wins at 197 pounds and 285 pounds, respectively to make the final score 32-16 in favor of the Bluejays.

UW-WHITEWATER 31, ELMHURST 9 - Elmhurst fell to 2-2 at the Border Brawl with a 31-8 loss to the 12th-ranked host Warhawks of University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. UW-Whitewater won six of the nine matches wrestled at received a forfeit to earn the victory.

Johnson scored a 1-0 victory over Mike Scloegel at 125 pounds. Balderas upended Reid Dickerson 5-2 at 174 pounds and Rau edged David Dwyer 2-1 at 184 pounds to account for the Bluejays' three victories.
