Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team dropped to 9-8 overall and 3-3 in CCIW play following a 77-60 loss to 17th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University.
The Bluejays started fast, racing out to a 17-8 lead midway through the opening half, but Illinois Wesleyan (14-3, 5-1 CCIW) closed the half on a 26-6 run to build a 34-23 lead at the half.
After struggling in the start of the opening half, the Titans stormed out in the second, knocking down five of their first six shots to open up a 20-point advantage. IWU extended its lead to 21 points, before an Elmhurst run brought the Bluejays to within 11 points with 8:26 left on the clock. The Titans used a 15-6 run to pull away and open up a 20-point lead with 1:29 remaining and cruising to the 17-point victory.
A cold shooting night doomed the Bluejays as Elmhurst struggled with its shooting for the majority of the game, finishing the contest hitting only 38.0 percent (19-of-50) of its shots. Elmhurst shot 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from downtown and 84.2 percent (16-of-19) from the foul line.
Illinois Wesleyan finished the contest shooting 55.1 percent (27-of-49) from the floor, including 471 percent (8-of-17) from long distance.
D'Ante Foster led the Bluejays with a game-high 19 points in the loss. He also dished out five assists.
Zack Boyd totaled 13 points and six rebounds while
Nick Sanford finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Four players reached double figures in scoring for the Titans. Jordan Zimmer led the way with 18 points, knocking down 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Andrew Ziemnik and Parker Musselman both came off the bench to score 13 points apiece for the Titans. Victor Davis scored 12 points while Eliud Gonzalez dished out a game-high nine assists.
Elmhurst travels to Carthage College on Tuesday, January 24.
