Box Score DECATUR, Ill. - James Robertson scored 16 points and
Zack Boyd recorded a double-double as the Elmhurst College men's basketball team cruised past Millikin University 71-49.
With the win, the Bluejays upped their record to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in league play while Millikin dropped to 1-15 overall and 0-5 in CCIW competition.
Elmhurst scored the game's opening basket, a three-pointer from Robertson, just 14 seconds into the contest and never trailed for the remainder of the game. The Bluejays built a 23-15 cushion and then outscored the Big Blue 15-6 for the final nine minutes of the opening half to open up a 38-21 lead at the break. The Bluejays shot a blistering 63.6 percent (14-of-22) in the opening half, including 71.4 percent (5-of-7) from downtown.
The Bluejays opened up a commanding 25-point lead in the second half and cruised to the 22-point road win. Elmhurst shot over 60 percent for the majority of the game before finishing the contest hitting 56.3 percent (27-of-48) of its shots. The Bluejays were deadly from downtown, hitting 6-of-9 (66.7 percent) from three-point range.
Millikin ended the contest shooting just 38.5 percent (20-of-52) from the floor, including 25.0 percent (3-of-12) from beyond the arc.
After outrebounding Augustana by 18 on Saturday, the Bluejays were once again dominant on the glass. Elmhurst pulled down 34 rebounds, finishing with a 34-24 edge over the Big Blue.
Robertson pumped in a game-high 16 points while shooting 5-of-6 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from long distance. He added five rebounds for the Bluejays. Boyd recorded a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. He also dished out five assists in the Elmhurst win.
Nick Sanford added eight points while
Erik Dornfeld came off the bench to score nine for the Bluejays.
Jerome Robinson chipped in with eight points while Brandon Grubl finished with a game-high five assists.
Rodney Clark was Millikin's leading scorer, finishing with 14 points. Matt Merrigan and Brock Von Nordeck added 11 points apiece for the Big Blue. Nikko Robertson finished with nine points and seven rebounds.
Elmhurst hosts Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, January 21.
