Bluejay Baseball Team Sinks Dominican 11-1

Dave Parr tossed a complete game to pitch the Elmhurst College baseball team to an 11-1 victory over Dominican University.

Dan Matkovic drove in five runs and Dan Bosco knocked in three to spark the Bluejays' offense in the win.

Dominican (9-28) scored an unearned run on Chris Anderson's RBI single in the first inning, but it was all Elmhurst the rest of the way. The Bluejays scored a run in the second to tie the score and Elmhurst (16-18) went on top 2-1 in the third inning on Matkovic's sacrifice fly.

Bosco doubled home a pair of runs in the fifth to stake the Bluejays to a 4-1 advantage. Elmhurst broke the game open in the sixth inning with five runs. Zach Hofer and Makovic roped back-to-back two-run doubles  and Bosco added an RBI single to give Elmhurst a 9-1 cushion.

The Bluejays put the game away in the seventh inning, scoring two runs to win by the 10-run mercy rule.

Matkovic finished 2-for-5 at the plate with five RBI. Bosco collected a pair of hits and drove in three while Hofer knocked in two and scored a pair of runs. Brian Marquis totaled three hits and also drove in a run for Elmhurst.

After giving up a run in the first, Parr allowed just two hits while blanking Dominican over the final six innings. Parr scattered three hits and one walk while allowing just one unearned run. He fanned six batters while improving to 5-2 on the season.

Elmhurst travels to Concordia University (Wis.) on Thursday, May 5.
