GARY, Ind. - The Elmhurst College baseball team slipped to 11-13 overall after dropping a 4-1 contest to Wabash College at the U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, Ind.
Pitching dominated the night with both teams recording only five hits.
Wabash (16-20) used a three-run seventh inning and rode the arm of Chris Widup to the 4-1 victory.
The Little Giants grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning. David Seibel was hit by a pitch with one out and scored on Joe Johnson's RBI double.
Elmhurst evened the score at one in the fifth.
Dan Bosco drew a one-out walk and scored on
Alex Molek's RBI double.
Wabash broke the game open with a three-run seventh inning. The Little Giants loaded the bases with one out and a passed ball allowed Johnson to score from third. Montana Timmons delivered a two-out, two-run single to give Wabash a three-run cushion.
Widup pitched a complete game for Wabash while improving to 4-4 overall. Widup scattered five hits, three walks, and one run while striking out 10.
Alex Van Cleve made the start for Elmhurst and took a no-decision. Van Cleve allowed just three hits and one run in six innings of work. He walked two and fanned one.
Anthony Jerkovich took the loss for Elmhurst, surrendering two hits and just two earned runs in one inning.
Elmhurst travels to Aurora University on Thursday, April 21.
