ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College baseball team ended a seven-game slide by upending 14th-ranked Augustana College 16-15 at Butterfield Park.
Elmhurst (11-9, 1-7 CCIW) totaled 16 hits and scored in all but three innings en route to the one-run victory.
Augustana (16-4, 6-2 CCIW) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning by taking advantage of a pair of Elmhurst errors. The Bluejays quickly answered back in the bottom of the frame. With the bases loaded and one out,
Dan Bosco drove in a run on a groundout.
Dave Wolak followed with a two-run single to put the Bluejays on top 3-2.
Elmhurst broke the game open in the third inning. The Bluejays sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six times to open up a 9-2 lead. Wolak doubled home a pair of runs and
Alex Molek tripled in a pair to ignite Elmhurst's offense in the third.
Augustana chipped away at Elmhurst lead by scoring a run in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two in the sixth.

Tyler Wargo drove in two for the Bluejays with a one-out double.
Augustana scored twice in the eighth inning to cut Elmhurst's lead down to 14-11, but Molek smashed a two-run homer in the bottom of the eight to give Elmhurst a 16-11 lead.
Augustana rallied back in the top of the ninth. The Vikings took advantage of an Elmhurst throwing error to plate two runs. Jared McIntosh's two-out two-run homer pulled the Vikings to within a run at 16-15, but Jacob VanDyne grounded out to end the game.
Wolak finished 4-of-5 at the plate with four runs driven in and a pair of runs scored. Molek recorded three hits and drove in five while Bosco finished with four RBI.
Zach Hofer collected three hits for Elmhurst in the win.
Jordan Hanlon improved to 3-0 on the season by notching the win from the mound. Hanlon worked 5.1 innings and allowed 10 hits and six earned runs. He walked three and struck out three.
Elmhurst hosts Dominican University on Monday, April 11.
