KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team dropped its fifth straight contest, falling to Carthage College 82-63.
Carthage's duo of Steve Djurickovic and Malcom Kelly combined for 51 points as the Red Men (13-9, 6-5 CCIW) broke open a six-point halftime lead to pull away for the 19-point victory.
Elmhurst (7-14, 2-8 CCIW) battled with the Red Men for the majority of the first half. Trailing by as many as eight points, the Bluejays pulled to within three points with 33 seconds remaining in the half, but Kelly drilled a three-pointer just before the horn to give Carthage a 40-34 lead at the break.
Leading by six just five minutes into the second half, the Red Men used a 7-0 run to open up a 13-point advantage on a Djurickovic lay-up. Elmhurst trimmed the lead down to 10 points, but came no closer as the Red Men slowly shut the door on the Bluejays.
Djurickovic poured in a game-high 29 points while shooting 11-of-17 from the floor and 7-of-11 from the foul line. He added six assists in the victory. Kelly finished with 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Kelly knocked down five three-pointers in the victory. Tyler Pierce added 10 points and Max Cary scored eight for the Red Men. Carthage finished the game shooting 54.5 percent (30-of-55) from the field, including 50.0 percent (7-of-14) from downtown.
Aaron Schroeder came off the bench to lead the Bluejays in the loss with 14 points.
D'Ante Foster added 11 points while
Erik Dornfeld also reached double figures by scoring 10.
Zack Boyd added eight points for the Bluejays while
Justin Phipps pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. Elmhurst hit 38.1 percent (24-of-63) from the floor, including 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from beyond the arc.
Elmhurst travels to North Park University on Saturday, February 12. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
