Men's Hoops Team Falls at Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. -
The Elmhurst College men's basketball team dropped its eighth straight contest after falling to Wheaton College 78-49.

Wheaton (18-7, 9-5 CCIW) opened up a 12-point first half advantage and carried a 28-23 lead into the locker room at halftime. 

The Thunder scored the first seven points of the second half to reestablish a 12-point lead. Elmhurst pulled to within nine points, but an 11-0 run by the Thunder put Wheaton up by 20 (51-31) with 13 minutes to play. Wheaton led by as many as 31 points and cruised to the 78-49 victory. 

Elmhurst shot only 31.5 percent (17-of-54) from the floor, including 25.0 percent (2-of-8) from three-point range. Wheaton shot over 50 percent from the field, hitting 54.5 percent (30-of-55) of its shots. 

Zack Boyd led the Bluejays in the loss with 11 points. Justin Phipps came off the bench to total 10 points and eight rebounds. James Robertson added nine points while Erik Dornfeld scored seven.

Tim McCrary paced the Thunder with 22 points and six rebounds. McCrary finished the game shooting 10-of-15 from the floor and added five assists. Andrew Jahns finished with 19 points and eight assists for Wheaton. Jeremy Pflederer pitched in with eight points for Wheaton 

Elmhurst closes out the 2011 season by traveling to Millikin University on Tuesday, February 22.
