CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team fell to 7-15 overall following an 80-74 overtime loss at North Park University.
Elmhurst led by as many as 10 points in the opening half and built a 33-27 lead at halftime. North Park (10-13, 4-8 CCIW) battled back in the second half to knot the score at 58-58 with 5:39 remaining. The two teams traded buckets over the next four minutes until
Zack Boyd gave Elmhurst a two-point lead by hitting a pair of free throws with 1:19 left. After a North Park turnover, and an Elmhurst miss, the Vikings' Emanuel Crosby evened the score with a pair of free throws with 26 seconds remaining.
Zack Boyd's potential game-winning shot came up short, sending the game to overtime.
In the extra period, the Vikings built a three-point lead while the Bluejays missed three of their first four shots. A Crosby jumper with 1:26 to play gave North Park a five-point cushion. The Bluejays trimmed the lead down to just three points with 1:10 remaining, but the Vikings' Roshawn Russell buried a three-pointer with 55 seconds left to play to help the Vikings put the game out of reach.
Four Bluejays reached double figures in scoring with Boyd leading the way with 22 points. Boyd added a team-high six rebounds and four assists in the loss.
James Robertson added 16 points, including four three-pointers, while
Erik Dornfeld posted a career-high 15 points.
Joe Acosta pitched in with 10 points.
Crosby led North Park and all scorers with 23 points and eight rebounds. Russell came off the bench to score 20 points and dish out six assists. Christian Alsing added 16 points for North Park.
North Park dominated the game on the glass, outrebounding Elmhurst 47-28, including an 18-9 edge in offensive rebounds.
Elmhurst hosts North Central College on Wednesday, February 16.
