ELMHURST, Ill. - An 18-0 second-half run propelled the Elmhurst College men's basketball team to a 73-49 victory over Olivet College.
With the victory, the Bluejays improved to 3-3 overall while Olivet slipped to 1-5 on the season.
Elmhurst built a 37-18 lead in the opening half, but the Comets closed on a 7-0 run to trim Elmhurst's lead down to 37-25 at halftime.
Olivet opened the second half on a 9-2 run to pull to within five points with just under 15 minutes remaining. The Bluejays responded with an 18-0 run over the next seven minutes to take a commanding 57-34 lead with eight minutes left on the clock. The Bluejays pushed their lead up to 27 points (71-44) and cruised to the 24-point victory.
Zack Boyd led a balanced scoring attack for the Bluejays, finishing with 16 points and seven rebounds.
James Robertson hit four three-pointers and totaled 14 points while
Jerome Robinson chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds.
D'Ante Foster and
Brandon Grubl scored eight points apiece.
Erik Dornfeld came off the bench to score five and grab a game-high 10 rebounds.
Olivet was led by Eric Mack's 12 points. Alvino Ashley and Dakotah Ellis scored eight points apiece for the Comets.
Elmhurst shot 50.9 percent (27-of-53) from the field and 66.7 percent (8-of-12) from beyond the arc. The Comets hit only 31.8 percent (21-of-66) from the floor, including 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from beyond the arc. The Bluejays dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Comets by 19 (47-28).
