NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Elmhurst College wrestling team turned in a perfect 3-0 performance at the Gator Duals to run their dual meet record to 8-0 on the season.
Elmhurst, ranked 10th in the latest NWCA Division III poll, toppled Delaware Valley College, 11th-ranked Luther College, and Waynseburg College at the one-day dual tournament.
ELMHURST 26, DELAWARE VALLEY 21, - Elmhurst opened the day with a five-point (26-21) dual meet victory over Delaware Valley. Five Bluejays scored individual victories while
Danny Vargas earned a forfeit win at 197 pounds.
Dalton Bullard upset 10th-ranked Eric McCann 4-3 at 133 pounds.
Ryan Earley added a 17-0 win by technical fall over James DeLillo at 149 pounds.
Yousef Al-Ghoul toppled Alec Horan 11-4 at 165 pounds while
Danny Balderas toppled Conner Gabriel 5-2 at 174 pounds.
Joe Rau pinned Joseph Richard at 184 pounds to account for Elmhurst's final win.
ELMHURST 28, LUTHER 15 - The Bluejays improved to 7-0 on the season by toppling 11th-ranked Luther College 28-15. Elmhurst won seven of the 10 matches en route to the 13-point victory. Bullard scored a 9-0 major victory over Louis Mazzetta at 133 pounds and
Jake Denhof followed by pinning Kyle Windquist in 2:26. Early upended 10th-raked Stephan De La Cruz 3-1 at 149 pounds and
Mike Grice followed with an identical 3-1 victory over Jacob Seibert at 157 pounds. Balderas toppled Jarid Groth at 174 pounds (8-2) while Rau followed with a 38-second pin of Nick Pearch at 184 pounds.
Brian Brooks closed the dual with a 5-3 victory over Conner Herman at 285 pounds.
ELMHURST 34, Waynesburg 13 - The Bluejays wrapped up the one-day tournament with a 21-point victory over Waynesburg. The Bluejays scored victories at seven weight classes. Bullard scored a 16-0 win by technical fall over Jake Vitolo at 133 pounds. Denhof followed with a 9-1 major decision over Aaron Mills at 141 pounds. Earley gave Elmhurst a 13-3 lead after toppling Chris Milligan 16-3 at 149 pounds. Balderas broke a 13-13 tie in the dual with a 6-3 win over Ryan Walters at 174 pounds. Rau won his third match of the day by pin, toppling Cody Catalina in 1:50. Vargas added a pin over Patrick Jennings (1:15) at 197 pounds and Brooks wrapped up the dual by pinning Brandon Fedorka in 2:09 at 285 pounds.
The Bluejays compete at the National Duals on January 7-8.
