Bluejays Fall to Wabash at DePauw Tourney

The Elmhurst College men's basketball team slipped to 1-3 overall after falling 67-59 to Wabash College at the Mike Rokicki Community Versus Cancer Challenge hosted by DePauw University.

The first half featured five lead changes and five ties before Wabash (3-0) built a 35-29 lead at halftime.

Wabash pushed its lead up to 11 points early in the second half before Elmhurst slowly chipped away. The Bluejays pulled to with four points on three occasions in the game's final seven minutes, but Elmhurst couldn't follow with a defensive stop, as Wabash answered the Bluejays run with an immediate bucket all three times.

A pair of free throws from D'Ante Foster brought Elmhurst to within four points at 50-56 with 2:18 left on the clock, but Wabash's Derek Bailey drained a three-pointer just 12 seconds later to put Wabash up seven. A pair of missed chances by the Bluejays allowed Wabash to push its lead up to 11 points with just 46 seconds remaining and put the game out of reach.

Elmhurst finished the game shooting just 35.7 percent (20-of-56) from the floor, including just 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from downtown. Wabash shot 51.1 percent (24-of-47) from the field and the Little Giants knocked down 9-of-20 attempts from three-point range (45.0 percent). Elmhurst held a 34-28 edge on the glass.

Three Bluejays reached double figures in scoring in the loss. Zack Boyd paced Elmhurst with 13 points. James Robertson and Jerome Robinson added 10 points apiece in the loss. Nick Sanford added seven points and totaled a team-leading 11 rebounds.

Wabash was led by Kasey Oetting's 17 points. Aaron Zinnerman added 15 points and four assists while Bailey chipped in with 14 points.

Elmhurst takes on Purdue-North Central in the consolation game of the tournament on Sunday (November 27).
