ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team dropped to 6-7 overall and 1-1 in the CCIW following a 67-45 loss at Augustana College.

Augustana (12-0, 2-0 CCIW) closed on a 10-1 run over the final five minutes of the opening half to build a 28-17 lead at halftime. Elmhurst managed to chip the lead down to just eight points early in the second half, but a 12-2 run by the Vikings gave Augustana an 18-point cushion midway through the half. Augustana cruised the rest of the way to the 22-point win. 

Elmhurst was ice cold from the floor in the opning half, shooting just 17.4 percent (4-of-23) from the floor. The Bluejays finished the game shooting 31.4 percent (16-of-51) from the field, including 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from downtown. 

Zack Boyd led Elmhurst in the loss by totaling 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Mike McCurdy added 10 points while battling foul trouble. Joe Acosta tallied six points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds in the loss.

Augustana finished the contest shooting 44.7 percent from the field (21-of-47), including 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from three-point range. The Vikings also overpowered the Bluejays on the glass, outrebounding the Bluejays 42-32. 

Eleven players tallied points for Augustana in the balanced attack. Kyle Nelson led the way for the Vikings with 12 points. Brian DeSimone and Bryant Voiles scored 11 points apiece. Voiles added eight rebounds for the Vikings.

Elmhurst hosts Carthage College on Wednesday, January 12.
