ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College volleyball team wrapped its opening tournament of the 2010 season with a 3-1 record after scoring a pair of victories on the tournament's second day.
Elmhurst began the day with a 3-1 victory over Trine University and then closed the tournament by defeating Saint Mary's College 3-0.
ELMHURST 3, TRINE 1 - Elmhurst improved to 2-1 on the season by knocking off Trine University 25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 25-18.
Meghan Mullaney powered the Elmhurst offense with a team-leading 11 kills. She added 25 digs and a pair of aces in the victory.
Melissa Miehlke and
Paige Fombelle each pounded down nine kills in the victory. Miehlke added 11 digs while Fombelle chipped in three blocks.
Megan Reynolds finished the match with six kills and six blocks.
Katie Rueffer led the team in assists with 27 while
Erin Thill added 15 assists and four kills.
Jameela Chaudhry chipped in with 10 digs.
ELMHURST 3, SAINT MARY'S 0 - The Bluejays upped their record to 3-1 on the season by blanking Saint Mary's College 30-28, 25-16, 25-19.
Fombelle led the Bluejays' offense in the victory, pounding down 11 kills while hitting a whopping .714. Reynolds added eight kills and a team-leading seven blocks while hitting .533 for the match.
Janelle Thompson finished with six kills while Chaudhry led the squad in digs with 14.
Erika Lindstrom totaled 11 digs in the Elmhurst victory. Rueffer tallied 27 assists while Thill finished with eight assists.
Fombelle was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts. Fombelle averaged 2.60 kills per game and 1.60 blocks per game.
Elmhurst travels to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for a triangular on Wednesday, September 8.
