Bluejay Football Team Runs Past Olivet 37-7

OLIVET, Mich. - Scottie Williams rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Elmhurst College football team to a 37-7 rout of Olivet College. 

Elmhurst (2-0) scored on three of its first four offensive possessions and led 20-0 after one quarter. The Bluejays scored all of their 37 points before Olivet (0-2) managed a late fourth-quarter touchdown.

The Bluejays racked up 421 yards of total offense while limiting the Comets to only 114 yards of total offense. Elmhurst's defense also forced four turnovers in the victory.

Elmhurst needed just three plays to get on the scoreboard after the opening kickoff. Facing a third-and-four from their own 46-yard line, Williams broke free for a 54-yard touchdown run. The extra point was blocked giving the Bluejays a 6-0 lead. 

Olivet coughed up the football on their first possession, with Elmhurst's Wayne Tuckson recovering the loose ball at the Comets' 26-yard line. Elmhurst went up 13-0 after Joe Furco capped a six-play scoring drive with a two-yard touchdown toss to Sean Seroka

After an Olivet punt that went only seven yards, the Bluejays took advantage of the short field as Williams accounted for every yard in a 34-yard scoring drive. After a 28-yard run to the Olivet 1-yard line, Williams plunged into the end zone to give the Bluejays a 20-0 lead.

Olivet's best scoring chance in the first half came after James Williams returned an Elmhurst punt to the Bluejays' 32-yard line. Kyle DeMus quickly killed the Comets' scoring chance when he picked off C.J. Gregory's pass on Olivet's first play of the drive. 

With time running out in the first half, the Bluejays marched to the  Olivet 19-yard line and J.R. Dalicandro booted a 36-yard field goal as time expired to give Elmhurst a 23-0 lead at the half.

Williams scored his third touchdown of the game when he capped a seven-play, 48-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter.

Following an Olivet punt, the Bluejays found the end zone for the final time as Furco connected with Ryan Bock for a 25-yard touchdown pass, giving Elmhurst a 37-0 lead.

Olivet scored its only touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter on a five-yard Edric Miller touchdown run.

Williams totaled over 200 yards in the game. The sophomore running back carried 16 times for 192 yards and three scores, averaging 12.0 yards per carry. He added three receptions for 32 yards to finish with 224 total yards on the day.

Elmhurst rushed for 296 yards on just 39 carries. In addition to Williams' big day, Griffin Gibson rushed for 66 yards on seven carries and Andrew Tubek carried nine times for 46 yards. Furco finished 13-of-22 for 125 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win.

Olivet managed just 115 yards of offense on 54 plays. The Comets carried 30 times for only 57 yards. De'Marko Reed was the top carrier for Olivet, rushing four times for 21 yards. Gregory finished 9-of-19 for 35 yards and a pair of interceptions. 

Tuckson and Randy Wright each recorded seven tackles to pace the Bluejays' defense. Wright recorded Elmhurst's only sack of the day while Kyle DeMus, Tyler DeMus and Brandon Jones each had an interception for the Bluejays. 

Nick Glass led Olivet's defense with eight tackles.

Elmhurst plays its first home game of the season next Saturday (September 18) by hosting the University of Chicago at 1:00 p.m.
