Elmhurst Baseball Team Upended By Illinois Wesleyan

Elmhurst, Ill. - The Elmhurst College baseball team fell to 7-24 overall following a 13-7 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University at Butterfield Park.

Illinois Wesleyan (15-17, 9-7 CCIW) hit three home runs and scored in each of the final five innings.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fifth, IWU's Mark McDermott slugged a three-run homer to put the Titans on top. A two-run homer by Zach Scott in the sixth inning put Illinois Wesleyan up 5-1.

After Elmhurst (3-13 CCIW) pulled to within two runs in the bottom of the sixth, the Titans scored five times in the seventh to break the game open. Casey McIntosh added a two run homer in the top of the eighth for the Titans.

Elmhurst jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second on Tim Nolan's RBI single. After Illinois Wesleyan had opened up a 5-1 lead in the sixth, Brian Marquis sliced the lead in half with a two run single to left. 

Joey Natale smashed a two-run homer for the Bluejays in the ninth. Joe Kennedy and Dan Bosco collected two hits apiece for the Bluejays in the loss.

Cody Boals took the loss for the Bluejays after allowing 14 hits and eight earned runs in 7.2 innings of work. He walked four while striking out seven.

Elmhurst travels to Bloomington on Saturday, May 1, to finish the three-game series with the Titans.
