CHICAGO, Ill. - The University of Chicago scored 13 runs over the final three innings to upend the Elmhurst College baseball team 19-8 in eight innings.
Elmhurst (7-23) fell behind 3-0 after four innings, but the Bluejays scored four times in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.
Joey Natale put Elmhurst on top with a two-run single.
After Chicago (15-12) grabbed a 6-4 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Bluejays evened the score in the sixth after
Dan Matkovic cracked a two-run homer.
The tie didn't last long as Chicago surged ahead by scoring five times in the bottom the sixth. The Maroons tacked on three runs in the seventh, and blew the game open with a six-run eighth inning.
Natale collected three of Elmhurst's 11 hits in the loss. Matkovic and
Zach Hofer totaled two hits apiece for Elmhurst.
Matt Bernier took the loss for the Bluejays, surrendering five runs (three hits) and three hits in 0.2 innings pitched.
Elmhurst hosts Illinois Wesleyan on Friday, April 30, at 6:00 p.m.
