DECATUR, Ill. - The Elmhurst College baseball team dropped a 3-2 contest at Millikin University to fall to 6-21 on the season. Rain wiped out the second game of a doubleheader.
Millikin (8-21, 3-10 CCIW) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Elmhurst (2-11 CCIW) evened the score in the fourth inning when
Dan Matkovic smashed a solo home run.
Millikin answered back with a run in the bottom of fourth to take a 2-1 lead. The Big Blue tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-1 advantage.
Elmhurst cut into the lead in the seventh when
Zach Crinigan doubled home a run.
Ryan Schrader singled, but Elmhurst pinch runner
Brian Evans was thrown out trying to score the tying run.
Cody Boals took the loss for Elmhurst despite pitching well. Boals dropped to 3-2 on the season and pitched a complete game. He allowed seven hits and three runs while walking one and striking out two.
The two teams had just started game two of a doubleheader before rain forced a halt to the contest in the bottom of the first. The two teams will attempt to resume the game tomorrow and then play a scheduled nine-inning contest. First pitch is now scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
