Elmhurst Baseball Team Sinks Aurora 8-2

ELMHURST, Ill. - Brian Marquis tossed a complete game while pitching the Elmhurst College baseball team to an 8-2 victory over Aurora University in non-conference play.

Elmhurst (6-19) grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in the second inning. Dan Matkovic tripled with one out and came home to score on a Mike Kerr sacrifice fly. The Bluejays made it 4-0 in the third inning by plating three runs. Joe Kennedy doubled home Keaten Landis and a misplay by Aurora allowed Ryan Schrader to score all the way from first base. Nick Herrera gave the Bluejays a four-run cushion by doubling home Kennedy.

Aurora (17-10) scored both of its runs in the fifth inning. With two on and one out, a misjudged ball by Elmhurst resulted in a two-run triple from Bobby Wilson.

The Bluejays added insurance in the sixth by scoring three times. With the bases full, Vince Mathe drove in two runs with a base hit that took a low hop under the shortstop's glove and into left field. Schrader added a run-scoring single to give Elmhurst a 7-2 lead.

Zach Hofer smashed a solo homer in the seventh to account for the Bluejays' final run. 

Schrader finished 3-for-5 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI while Herrera banged out three hits, scored a run, and drove in a run for Elmhurst. 

Marquis picked up his first win of the season while tossing Elmhurst's third complete game of the year. Marquis scattered nine hits while allowing just two runs over nine innings. He did not allow a walk and recorded 15 outs by ground out. 

Elmhurst takes on Wabash College on April 24, at the U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, Ind.
