Bluejay Baseball Squad Downed By Cardinals

ELMHURST, Ill. -
The Elmhurst College baseball team dropped its 10th straight contest, falling to 3-16 overall, after suffering a 10-4 loss to North Central College.

North Central (18-3, 7-1 CCIW), finished the three-game series sweep against the Bluejays and kept Elmhurst winless in CCIW competition (0-7). 

The Cardinals struck for all 10 of their runs in the opening four innings. North Central scored three in both the first and second innings, and tacked on four runs in the fourth to open up a commanding 10-0 lead.

Elmhurst battled back for a pair of runs in the fifth on a Mike Kerr RBI double and a Nick Herrera run-scoring single.

The Bluejays added a run in the eighth when Dan Bosco drew a bases loaded to walk to force home a run. Patrick O'Connor drove in a run on grounded in the ninth inning to account for Elmhurst's final run of the game. 

Herrera finished 3-for-5 at the plate while Bosco, Kerr, Dan Matkovic, and Vince Mathe all collected two his apiece.

Brian Colucci took the loss for Elmhurst. Colucci surrendered all 10 runs (eight earned) on seven hits in 3.2 innings of work. He walked four while fanning one batter. Brian Marquis and Matt Bernier combined to throw 5.1 scoreless innings in relief.

Elmhurst will look to snap its 10-game skid when the Bluejays host North Park University in a doubleheader on April 14.
