OLIVET, Mich - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team fell to 0-4 on the season following an 88-76 loss at Olivet College.
Olivet (5-2) shot 50 percent from the floor (28-of-56) and from beyond the arc (7-of-14) and never trailed in the contest.
The Comets led by as many as seven points in the early minutes of the contest, but the Bluejays battled back to tie the score at 28 with 5:30 remaining in the opening half. The Comets closed the half on a 13-8 run to take a 41-36 lead at the half.
After a quick bucket by Elmhurst to open the second half, the Comets quickly took control. Olivet opened up a 15-point (63-48) advantage with 11:34 remaining. Elmhurst pulled to within 10 points, but the Bluejays were unable to come any closer, falling by an 88-76 final score.
Elmhurst finished the contest shooting 43.9 percent (29-of-66) from the floor, including 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from three-point range.
Olivet converted 25-of-36 free throw attempts (69.4 percent) while Elmhurst hit 13-of-20 attempts (65.0 percent) from the foul line.
Zack Boyd scored 20 points to pace Elmhurst in the loss. Boyd shot 8-of-14 and added four rebounds before fouling out.
Mike McCurdy totaled 15 points and a team-leading seven rebounds.
Sean Fendley came off the bench to score 12 points, with all 12 coming on three-pointers.
Erik Dornfeld tallied nine points and five boards in the loss.
Elmhurst had no answer for Olivet's Michael McClary. McClary poured in 32 points on 12-o-17 shooting to lead all scorers. Three other Comets reached double figures in scoring. Nathan Jennings added 19 points while Jaren Edsall scored 14. Cameron Duncan accounted for all 12 of Olivet's bench points.
Elmhurst travels to Westminster College (Mo.) on Sunday.
