ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team dropped to 5-14 overall and 0-8 in CCIW competition after falling to Augustana College 62-49.

Augustana (12-7, 5-3 CCIW) broke open an early 6-6 tie with an 11-0 run to take a 17-6 lead midway through the opening half. The Vikings led 29-20 at the half.

Augustana opened the second half on a 26-11 run to open up a commanding 55-31 lead with 8:53 left to play. The Bluejay chipped the Vikings' lead down to 13 points but fell short in the 62-49 loss.

Elmhurst struggled from the floor, shooting just 27.8 percent (15-of-54). The Bluejays were also cold from long range, hitting just 3-of-22 attempts (13.6 percent). 

Augustana shot 49.0 percent (25-of-51) from the floor, including 25.0 percent (3-of-12) from beyond the arc. 

Zack Boyd led Elmhurst with 17 points in the loss. Dustin Bainter added eight points and five rebounds while Aaron Schroeder scored seven and grabbed five boards. 

Elmhurst had no answer for Augustana's Kyle Nelson. Nelson finished a perfect 12-of-12 from the floor to total a game-high 28 points. Chris Anderson came off the bench to score seven while Matt Pelton and Brandon Kunz scored six points apiece.
