Bluejay Men Routed by Wheaton 70-43

The Elmhurst College men's basketball team remained winless in CCIW play after suffering a 70-43 loss to Wheaton College.

Wheaton (12-5, 4-2 CCIW) dominated on the glass, outrebounding Elmhurst 45-23. The Thunder had 15-rebound advantage on the offensive glass. Wheaton used 18 offensive rebounds to score 15 second-chance points.

The Thunder led 40-21 at halftime and outscored Elmhurst 30-22 in the second half.

The Bluejays shot 41.0 percent (16-of-39) from the floor, but only 22.2 percent (2-of-9)  from 3-point range. The Bluejays struggled from the foul line, hitting just 9-of-20 attempts (45.0 percent).

Wheaton shot 43.6 percent (24-of-55) from the field, including 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from beyond the arc. The Thunder also struggled from the charity stripe, hitting just 14-of-25 (56.0 percent) attempts.

Zack Boyd was the only Bluejay to reach double figures in scoring, finishing with a team-leading 12 points. Dustin Bainter added eight points in the loss.

Tim McCrary paced the Thunder with 18 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists. Andrew Jahns and John Shackelford scored 15 points for the Thunder in the win.
