Men's Baseball Team Drops Pair at Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst College baseball team fell to 13-22 overall and 4-14 in CCIW play after dropping both ends of a doubleheader at Carthage College.

Carthage (28-5, 17-1 CCIW) scored a 3-1 win in the first game, and pounded Elmhurst 17-3 in the night cap.

CARTHAGE 3, ELMHURST 1 (Game One) - Carthage scored a run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to erase a 1-0 deficit and score the 3-1 victory.

Elmhurst scored a its lone run in the third inning when Ryan Schrader singled home Patrick O'Connor.

O'Connor collected two of the Bluejays' six hits in the loss.

Cody Boals (3-4) took the loss for the Bluejays. He scattered seven hits and three earned runs in six innings of work. He walked one and struck out one.

Mario Perez earned the win for Carthage. He tossed seven innings and held the Bluejays to only four hits and one run while striking out seven.

CARTHAGE 17, ELMHURST 3 (Game Two) - Carthage banged out 17 hits en route to the 17-3 victory in seven innings.

Mark Sobol powered Carthage with a pair of home runs and six RBI in the victory. Drew Roberts also went deep twice and drove in four. Mike Hughes also drove in four.

Elmhurst took a 3-2 lead in the second inning when Elmhurst plated three runs. Vince Mathe started the scoring with an RBI double. Schrader and Zach Hofer added run-scoring singles for the Bluejays.

Carthage scored four runs in the third and fourth to take a commanding 10-3 lead. The Red Men put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Eric Rohe earned the win for Carthage, pitching a complete game and allowing just seven hits and three runs. he walked one and struck out seven.

Dan Napientek (1-3) took the loss for Elmhurst. He lasted just 1.1 innings and was tagged for five hits and six runs. He walked three and struck out two.
