ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College baseball team scored its first CCIW win of the season by defeating North Park University 5-3 in a rain-shortened contest.

North Park grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, but Elmhurst (9-8 overall, 1-7 CCIW) scored four times in the bottom of the third thanks to three Viking errors.

Three straight errors on North Park loaded the bases for the Bluejays. Three consecutive walks to Brett Lilley, Zach Hofer, and Nick Herrera forced in three runs. A balk then forced in Elmhurst's fourth run of the inning. In all the Bluejays scored four runs without getting a hit in the inning.

North Park scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to close to within a run, but Elmhurst added a run in the bottom of on a Mike Kerr RBI single. The game was called shortly after due to the rain and snow.

Joe Luft scored the win for Elmhurst, pitching five innings and allowing eight hits and three earned runs. He walked two while striking out three.

Elmhurst hosts Augustana College on Wednesday, April 8, at 3:00 p.m.
