CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst College baseball team slipped to 13-20 overall after dropping an 8-2 decision at the University of Chicago.

Originally scheduled for a doubleheader, the two teams played only one game due the recent rainfall and the field conditions.

Chicago (13-10) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after just two innings. The Maroons scored a pair of runs in the first inning and plated three more runs in the bottom of the second.

Elmhurst got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Nick Herrera led off the inning with a solo home run.

Chicago tacked on three runs in the bottom of the fifth to open up an 8-1 advantage.

The Bluejays got a run back in the top of the eighth on a Dan Matkovic RBI single, but could not come any closer.

Matkovic, Mike Kerr, and Brett Lilley all recorded two hits apiece in the loss.

Michael Boemo (2-4) took the loss for the Bluejays. He was charged with eight hits and eight runs in 4.2 innings of work. Boemo walked one and struck out one in the loss.

Elmhurst hosts Millikin University on Thursday, April 30, at 3:30 p.m.
