ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Elmhurst College baseball team slipped to 0-5 in CCIW play after getting pounded by Augustana College in a doubleheader. Elmhurst dropped game one 17-2 and fell in the nightcap 20-4.
Elmhurst (8-8 overall) was outscored 37-6 in the two games.
AUGUSTANA 17, ELMHURST 2 (Game One) - Elmhurst committed seven errors that led to 12 unearned runs for Augustana. The Vikings busted open a 2-1 game by plating nine runs in the bottom of the second to take a commanding 11-1 lead.
Augustana outhit Elmhurst 10-5 in the game.
Dan Matkovic led Elmhurst with two hits in the loss. Tyler Manske recorded the Bluejays' lone RBI.
Dave Hoffman led Augustana's offense with four RBI. Mark Ramos homered and drove in three for the Vikings.
Dan Napientek (0-1) suffered the loss for the Bluejays. Napientek was tagged for eight hits and 14 runs (just two earned runs). He walked four while striking out none.
Augustana's Grant Loiselle (2-0) earned the win, allowing just five hits and two runs in seven innings. Loiselle tossed a complete game, walking two batters and striking out seven.
AUGUSTANA 20, ELMHURST 4 (Game Two) - Elmhurst was hammered for the second straight game as Augustana scored 20 runs on 18 hits.
T.J. O'Donnell homered and drove in five runs to lead the Vikings' offense while John Wagle recorded three RBI in the win.
Mike Kerr, Zach Hofer, and Vince Mathe recorded two hits apiece in the loss for Elmhurst. Nick Herrera drove in two runs for the Bluejays.
Michael Boemo (1-1) suffered the loss from the mound for Elmhurst. Boemo surrendered 10 hits and 11 runs in 4.1 innings of work. He walked four while striking out three.
Kyle Murphy (3-0) fired a complete game for Augustana to earn the win. Murphy scattered 11 hits in seven innings of work. He allowed just two earned runs while striking out seven.
