Bluejay Baseball Team Falls to Buena Vista

CHANDLER, Airz. (March 25, 2009) - The Elmhurst College baseball team had its five-game winning streak snapped with a 9-6 loss to Buena Vista University at the Russ Matt Invitational in Arizona. Elmhurst slipped to 7-3 with the loss while Buena Vista won its 11th straight contest to move to 11-1.

Elmhurst fell behind 5-0 after just two innings, but the Bluejays chipped away at the lead scoring a run in the fourth and scoring three times in the fifth to pull to within a run. Buena Vista answered back with a run in the bottom of the fifth and a pair of runs in the sixth to take an 8-4 lead.

Elmhurst closed the gap again in the seventh inning when Patrick O'Connor roped a two-run double to pull the Bluejays to within two runs. Buena Vista tacked on an insurance run in the eighth inning to secure the 9-6 win.

The Bluejays committed three errors in the contest which led to three unearned runs.

O'Connor sparked the Bluejays' offense with three RBI. Nick Herrera and Brett Lilleyy each finished with a pair of hits. Herrera scored two runs while Lilley drove in a run and also scored a run in the loss.

Andy Bejlovec suffered the loss for Elmhurst. Bejlovec worked three innings and allowed seven hits and five runs. He walked two while fanning one batter.

Elmhurst closes out its Arizona road trip on Wednesday, March 25, by playing Thomas College.
