Elmhurst Baseball Team Sweeps Double Dip From Colby

MESA, Ariz. - The Elmhurst College baseball team improved to 5-0 on its trip to Arizona by sweeping a doubleheader from Colby College.

Elmhurst (7-2) mounted a three-run two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth to win the first game 4-3. The Bluejays completed the doubleheader sweep with a 9-2 win in game number two.

ELMHURST 4, COLBY 3 (Game One) - Elmhurst used a three-run two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth to come from behind and score 4-3 win over Colby College.

With two outs in the sixth, Nick Herrera ripped a two-run triple to knot the score at 3-3. Mike Kerr followed with an RBI single to drive in Herrera and give the Bluejays the lead.

Cyrus Rogers earned the win in relief, working 2.2 scoreless innings and allowing just four hits. Rogers walked one and struck out three while picking up the victory.

Kerr led the Bluejays' offense with a 2-for-4 day at the plate to go along with a pair of runs driven in. Tim Nolan finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in the victory.

ELMHURST 9, COLBY 2 (Game Two) - The Bluejays wasted little time putting the game out of reach as Elmhurst plated five runs in the first inning and cruised to the 9-2 win.

Michael Boemo tossed a complete game while earning the victory from the mound. Boemo scattered six hits and two walks over seven innings. He allowed just two earned runs and struck out five.

Dan Bosco finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a team-leading three RBI. Herrera added two hits and a pair of runs scored while Joey Natale finished 2-for-2 with a double, a stolen base, and a pair of RBI. Dan Matkovic and Tyler Manske finished with two hits apiece in the victory.

Elmhurst continues its Arizona road trip by facing Buena Vista University on Tuesday, March 24.
