Bluejay Men Toppled By UW-La Crosse

The Elmhurst College men's basketball team dropped to 4-6 overall following a 76-66 loss at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

UW-La Crosse (9-2) raced out to a 16-4 lead and never trailed in the contest. The Bluejays sliced the Eagles' advantage down to just three points with six minutes left in the first half, but UW-La Crosse closed the half on a 10-2 run to lead 37-26 at halftime.

Elmhurst trimmed the Eagles' lead down to six points (63-57) with 6:25 left in the second half, but UW-La Crosse responded with five straight points to take a 70-59 advantage with 4:15 left on the clock. The Bluejays pulled to within six with just under two minutes to play, but could come no closer as the Eagles hung on for the 76-66 victory.

Elmhurst struggled with its shooting, hitting just 37.1 percent of its shots (26-of-70). The Bluejays were also cold from downtown, hitting just 3-of-15 attempts (20.0 percent). 

UW-La Crosse finished the game shooting 47.3 percent from the floor (26-of-55), including 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from beyond the arc.

The Bluejays finished with a 48-29 rebounding advantage, including a 28-12 edge on the offensive glass. The Bluejays scored 22 second-chance points off the 28 offensive rebounds. 

Zack Boyd totaled a double-double to lead the Bluejays in the loss. Boyd scored 19 points while pulling down a career-high 15 rebounds. Dustin Bainter added 17 points and six rebounds while Aaron Schroeder came off the bench to score 10. Joe Acosta totaled six points and seven rebounds in the loss. 

Tony Mane led the Eagles with a game-high 25 points while shooting 8-of-15 from the floor. Trevor Stratton added 18 points while Kurt Kincaid contributed 12 points.

Elmhurst closes out the non-conference portion of its schedule by hosting Simpson College on Saturday, January 2.
